Attending a church for the first time can be intimidating. It doesn’t have to be! We know that when it comes to choosing a place to worship, you have a lot of choices. We also know that it can sometimes be intimidating and awkward to visit a church for the first time.
We want your experience at Calvary Baptist Church to be pleasant and painless so that you can focus on worshiping God and studying His Word. And we want you to come back!

At Calvary, our heart’s desire is to bring glory to God as we exalt our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by worshiping in spirit and in truth. We worship God through congregational singing, Scripture reading, prayer, giving, preaching, personal response, and the ordinances (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper). We hope to see you soon!
About CBC
At Calvary Baptist Church, we connect in three ways:
We invite you to take the first step in getting to know us by connecting with us during our Sunday morning worship service at 11:00 am. And you may want to connect with others in Bible Study during our Sunday morning Sunday School classes or Small Groups at 9:45 am. There are groups for every age.
Our greeters will be happy to assist you in finding the Small Groups that are right for each member of your family.
At Calvary, we have a heart for reaching out to the lost in service by being On Mission. We would be glad to discuss with you how you can get connected to a Ministry Team.
What to Expect
Q. What is the music like?
A. We sing both the great hymns of our faith and newer expressions of faith in contemporary worship songs.
Q. What is the preaching like?
A. Our pastors preach Christ-centered sermons, explaining God’s Word and how it relates to our lives.
Q. How do people dress?
A. Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Some people wear a suit & tie or dress. Some wear jeans and a t-shirt. There is no dress code; come as you are!
Q. Is there something for my kids?
A. A nursery is provided every Sunday for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old. Kids’ Worship happens about one Sunday a month during the preaching portion of the service for K-4th grades. It is always your choice to keep your children in the main worship service or to allow them to attend Kids’ Worship.

Get involved at CBC and grow in your faith. We believe that you will find Calvary Baptist Church to be a “friendly” church. But we desire to be more than a friendly church; we want to be a church where you will find friends!
Our goal is to help you connect with others who are like-minded in living out the gospel so that you will be encouraged, challenged, and motivated to grow in Christian maturity through authentic, Christ-centered relationships.
At CBC, we have ministries that will serve everyone in your family: Sunday School, Small Groups, Adult Ministries, Student Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Worship Ministries, and Hispanic Ministry.

Pastors
Pastor Matt McGukin
Lead Pastor
Pastor Matt serves as Lead Pastor at CBC. He came to Calvary in August 2014. Pastor Matt’s heart is to pastor a church with an Acts 1:8 vision — a church that desires to make disciples of all nations, beginning locally and extending to the ends of the earth. He is a graduate of both Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div. Biblical Languages) and Mercer University (B.A. English & Christianity). Matt is married to Marty, and they have three children: Daisy, Micah, and Noah.
Pastor Tyler Penalber
Associate Pastor
Pastor Tyler serves as Associate Pastor at CBC. Pastor Tyler serves over the Worship ministry and the Student ministry here at Calvary. Pastor Tyler came to Calvary in July 2022. With Ephesians 4 as his outline to his call to ministry, Pastor Tyler strives to serve in the role described in verses 11-12. Equipping others for the work of the Gospel. Pastor Tyler graduated from William Carey University in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Worship Technology. As of August 2022, Pastor Tyler is pursuing a Master of Arts in Worship Leadership from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Pastor Tyler is accompanied by his Black Lab, Bella.

Cathy Blurton
Church Secretary
Cathy Blurton serves as our Church Secretary. She is married to Lewis, and they have been members of CBC for almost 10 years. Cathy enjoys birdwatching and camping with her husband in her spare time. She has been on staff since January 2021.

CBC is located at 785 First Street in Idaho Falls, ID. You can enter the parking lot from First Street, Fanning Ave, or Lomax Street.
From the parking lot you will see the Main Entrance, marked “Welcome”, where you will be greeted and guided to the Worship Center or appropriate classrooms.
